A Quick History of Tolovana

Before it was a public recreation site, the Tolovana area was home to a rustic oceanfront inn known as the Warren Hotel. Oregon Governor Oswald West, best known for protecting the state’s beaches for public use, was a frequent guest. In fact, the name “Tolovana” comes from a Native Alaskan word meaning “river of sticks,” nodding to the Warren family’s time in Alaska before they settled and mapped the area.
While the hotel is long gone, the easy-going spirit of this stretch of coast lives on.
